ERA implemented the project "Protecting Biodiversity in the Balkans - Strengthening Co-operation along the Balkan Belt", which contributed to the recognition of the Green Belt in Kosovo, as well as raising the awareness of the importance of Biodiversity.
This is the second year that ERA implements this project aimed at raising awareness among young people about Biodiversity protection and conservation of nature. As part of the celebration this day was initially the cross-border path between Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro during which a multi-day workshop (22-24 September, 2017) followed with activities of walking, camping and outdoor activities.
As part of this project was also the Best Picture Photo Competition in Kosovo. Two winning photographs of Kosovo have taken third place in the Pan-European Competition for the best picture in which 24 states have taken part, the winning photographers had as a reward accommodation for one night in the ERA cabin in Hajlia, Rugova and their personal exhibit at Haxhi Zeka’s mill in Peja.
The topics of the workshop were: Green Belt, cross-border cooperation, cross-border protection of nature, biodiversity and environmental activism.
Green Belt Day 24 September 2017 was celebrated in the Beleg Mountains, everyone who had interest was able to participate in the celebration of this day during which a meeting was held with the group of participants in the cross-border journey coming from Montenegro. After the meeting with the group, a presentation of the Green Belt initiative was made for guests and the meeting was closed with a traditional cocktail.
The second part of the project was the exhibition which took place on October 18, 2017, the Environmentally Responsible Action (ERA) group hosted the opening ceremony of the Green Belt 2017 photography exhibition in Haxhi Zeka Mill, where 50 photos were exhibited. This event featured the collections of photos of three winners of the Green Belt competition in Kosovo: Gzim Sinani, Milot Tafilaj and Fatlinda Daku, as well as journey through photos of Kosovo-Albania-Montenegro cross-border hike for the celebration of the annual Balkan Green Belt Day.
